The tide of legislation in respect of tenants' rights to buy their freehold interests or to extend leases has been flowing strongly in favour of leaseholders over the past few years, with the landmark Leasehold Reform, Housing and Urban Development Act 1993.  Following on from this and having gained Royal Assent in July 2002, The Commonhold and Leasehold Reform Act 2002 has made some significant changes.
