Alteration and extension of a house in Brill
Carter Jonas' Building Consultancy team converted a 1950s former telephone exchange to create a games room/home cinema for a modern home. They also designed a link extension incorporating a utility room and shower room, allowing the accommodation to be adapted to form a self-contained guest or granny annexe.
This 1970s house, situated in an elevated position on the edge of a hilltop village, included a detached brick-built outbuilding which was formerly the village telephone exchange, dating from the 1950s.
Carter Jonas' Building Consultancy team designed a link extension and converted the outbuilding to form a galleried games room/home cinema. The new link incorporated a utility room and shower room, allowing the accommodation to be adapted to form a self-contained guest or granny annexe. The existing dining room was also extended as part of the works. Additional windows were added to capitalise on the magnificent views across Aylesbury Vale.
This was a difficult design challenge as the telephone exchange was located almost 2 m lower than the house and positioned at an awkward angle. The clients are delighted with the results, which have completely transformed their use of the house.
