Winchester Staple Chambers

Christopher is a Partner and has been based in Winchester since 1973 advising clients in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight on the management of their rural estates and farms. This work, often on the urban fringe, includes residential and commercial property in addition to the usual agricultural aspects of rural estates together with heritage, diversification and business development.  Christopher is secretary to the John Edgar Trust, a charity which provides management training to graduates in the rural sector and has an interest in public access and in addition to leading estate walks he represents landowners on the Hampshire Access Forum. Christopher cycles to work and to Southampton to watch them play football in the Championship.

Mark qualified as a chartered surveyor after two years as an assistant estate manager for the Stanley Estate and Stud Company in the North West of England.  He joined the Winchester office in 1983 where he works in rural property management and valuation; town and country planning; and minerals and waste. He is a consultant to clients in both the public and private sectors.  In the 1990s Mark lead a multi-disciplinary team working on rural land reform for the federal government of Czechoslovakia. He was also the author of the groundbreaking Hampshire and Oxfordshire Farming Studies jointly commissioned by local authorities and private sector partners.  Mark has served for the RICS on both the Rural Divisional Council and the International Committee, and also as the Institution’s European Rural Policy Adviser. He currently sits on the Countryside Policies Panel and is an RICS spokesman on energy. Outside work, Mark has two motorcycles and enjoys skiing.
