Government procedures on home moving during the coronavirus must be adhered to. Please click here to read the latest advice which is split into information for the public and the industry.

Below, you will find a Q&A of our current advice and services, which will be kept up to date as the situation evolves.

Our research team have published a detailed WINTER HOUSING MARKET OUTLOOK that is being continually reviewed and updated with our most latest insights. To view this report please click here.

The government has amended the coronavirus (COVID-19) regulations to make clear that people who wish to move home can do so. To arrange a market appraisal, please contact a local Carter Jonas office. Before making an appointment in person, our agent will talk through the government criteria. If any party is showing symptoms or has been asked to self-isolate, a virtual market appraisal or video call will be offered instead. This is to ensure that your safety and that of our team can always be maintained. Once you have selected an agent you can prepare your property for the market.

There are no restrictions on accepting offers, although the government warns the process is likely to take longer than normal.

Virtual viewings are still encouraged in the first instance. Adhering to all government guidelines, Carter Jonas will be happy to arrange physical viewings of any properties which you have a strong interest in. Our agent can be present at viewings and will seek to maintain a minimum of two metres distance from others wherever possible. For all parties to feel comfortable, a face covering, and gloves will be worn by all our agents. Windows should be opened where possible and it is advised that all internal doors be opened, and surfaces wiped down before entering a property. Hand sanitiser should be used by all immediately after entering the properties and following the appointment, and hands should be washed as soon as possible. Comprehensive government guidance on visiting properties can be found here.

No. Instead the Government has told everyone involved in a property sale or let to adapt to new restrictions around social distancing and self-isolation.

Yes. However, all parties are encouraged to be as flexible as possible over this period and be prepared to delay moves if needed, for example, if someone becomes ill with coronavirus during the moving process or has to self-isolate.
Yes. As long as everyone involved in a property sale or let follows the government advice on home moving during the outbreak.

The Government has said that if moving is unavoidable, people can proceed but must follow social distancing guidelines.

The government has agreed with banks that mortgage offers should be extended for up to three months where completions are delayed and is working with conveyancers to establish a legal process for moving completion dates.
Estate agents must ensure that any keys are appropriately cleaned before handover. The full requirements of this process can be found here.
