12 August 2015, The Carter Jonas London Planning and Development team, with support from our Cambridge Commercial and Planning & Development teams, have secured a resolution to grant outline planning permission for up to 220 homes on a 10 hectare former cement works on the edge of Barrington.
The facility was decommissioned in 2012 and long discussions followed with South Cambridgeshire District Council (SCDC) and Barrington Parish Council about the future of the site. Our Commercial team demonstrated that redevelopment for commercial purposes was not viable and that residential was the only viable land use.
The extent of the area for development and the density of development both reduced to a point that SCDC was satisfied with the principle, and Carter Jonas negotiated the mitigation of the scheme which included improvements to local schools, community facilities and provision of a dedicated cycle and pedestrian link to the nearby railway station at Foxton Station. Having demonstrated to the satisfaction of the case officer that the development was sustainable, the application was approved by members.
