On behalf of our landowning clients, Crabhill Development and their master developer, St Modwen, we are pleased to announce the sale of a 1.1-acre serviced plot with planning permission for the care home, on the exciting Kingsgrove development scheme in Wantage, Oxfordshire.

The land was sold to Care UK for £2,750,000 and represents the latest milestone in our landowning clients’ vision to create a community with aspirations for design and place-making.

Our professionals have acted for the landowners at Kingsgrove for more than 10 years. Together with Lands Improvement Holdings, we obtained outline planning permission for the 227-acre new settlement in July 2015 from the Vale of White Horse District Council for up to 1,500 homes, a new primary school, a neighbourhood centre, including a pub/restaurant and local retail accommodation, sports pitches, employment space and community amenities set around a central park. St. Modwen subsequently signed a development agreement with the landowners to take forward the delivery of the masterplan and infrastructure in June 2017.

In autumn 2020, we launched the first phase of our Live Local Plan Monitor, an interactive online platform that analyses adopted local plans, emerging plans, consultations and housing land supply.

From September 2021, it we expanded the monitor to include all of the English regions and Wales, with further coverage of the UK planned. To view our Live Local Plan Monitor, click here.

The web-based resource is unique in providing an up-to-date snapshot of local strategic planning and creates a level of insight not previously available. It does this through a series of interactive web pages displaying local authority boundaries, key towns and cities and road networks in the context of information on the adopted local plan, emerging local plans (and the regulation stage reached), stated housing land supply and opportunities for submitting sites for development suitability assessment.

The tool is supporting developers, landowners, Central Government, those responsible for major infrastructure projects, Government bodies (e.g., Environment Agency, Natural England), local authorities and members of the public.

The Live Local Plan Monitor also provides insight into local government reorganisation, an increasingly regionalised approach to strategic planning, and provides important information on Local Plan adoption, which is instrumental in addressing housing needs.

On 25th September, Katherine Jones, Associate in the P&D South and South West team, represented Great Britain at the European Triathlon Championships in Valencia.

The event was a sprint-distance triathlon which took place in and around Valencia marina against some of the top age group triathletes in Europe. Katherine qualified for Team GB for the European Triathlon Championships in 2019 and was due to race in the finals in Sweden in 2020, but the covid-19 pandemic prevented that from taking place and so the event was moved to an alternative destination in 2021.

Despite going into the event with an injury which prevented any running for 8 weeks before the race, Katherine finished 11th in her age group against a very tough field of competition.

Carter Jonas proudly supported Katherine in her lead up to the event.

Responding to fast-moving urban change, we recruited Juha Raymond in May as a partner to spearhead our Build-to-Rent (BTR) offer. He is based out of our firm's headquarters, One Chapel Place, London.

Juha joins from Bruton Realty which he co-founded in 2015 to target opportunities in BTR and the wider Private Rented Sector, advising institutional, private equity and developer clients on acquisition, sales, consulting and business operations.

Before this, he was an associate director in the London Investment and Development team at Colliers International. He has also held roles at CBRE, Montagu Evans and US-based private equity real estate business, Westbrook Partners.

At Carter Jonas, Juha will help promote our BTR experience and capabilities in this sector, garnered from our firm's national network including experts in land management and assembly, planning and development, extending to residential professionals in lettings, new homes and portfolio and letting management. Juha will also champion BTR within our firm, ensuring a well-managed, service-led approach for our clients ranging from landowners at the initial stage of a project to the end-users.

Lisa Simon, Head of Residential, said: "Juha brings more than 20 years of experience to Carter Jonas - a significant proportion of which has been invested in the BTR sector, a major area of focus for our business. His expertise will be invaluable as we support clients looking to target opportunities in the residential market, propelled by shifts in living patterns and changing demographics. Juha will be instrumental in bringing together expertise within our business, working with specialists from our land, infrastructure, planning, development and commercial teams, as well as our homes departments, to deliver a collaborative and innovative approach for new and existing clients."

Juha Raymond, Partner, said: "Interest from investors and developers in BTR and new modes of living continues to grow as they are attracted to the relative stability of the sector and its non-cyclical drivers. With a network of offices across the country, in areas that align with the BTR market, Carter Jonas is well placed to provide a full suite of services. I look forward to working with the wider team to grow our market share and support our clients to provide both operational and transactional advice in this exciting and fast-developing area."

On behalf of Harworth Group plc and the Gilliat Family, our Leeds based planning professionals submitted an outline planning application in February to Doncaster Council for up to 2.9 million sq ft of employment space at Bradholme Farm, Thorne.

The site is a prime location for employment as it is located within an established industrial and logistics corridor in South Yorkshire, which is also sustainable and well connected to Thorne. It will bring significant socio-economic benefits to Thorne and Doncaster through the creation of up to 4,500 new jobs and around £252 million of GVA per annum.

Our professionals managed the project team to address all technical issues such as transport, flood risk and ecology, including the coordination and preparation of an Environmental Statement.

The application follows pre-application discussions with Doncaster Council, statutory and non-statutory consultees, EIA scoping and representations to the Doncaster Local Plan.

Nick is a chartered town planner and development surveyor with over 25 years' experience, gained across the residential, commercial, retail and industrial sectors for corporate, institutional and private landowners and developers. He has worked at CBRE and Drivers Jonas Deloitte. His professional experience is in three main sectors – Strategic Land / Projects, Retail / Mixed-Use and Central London. Strategic Projects / Land involves the promotion of land for commercial and residential development for landowners and developers. Retail / Mixed-Use schemes are a blend of edge of centre and town centre mixed-use schemes with food stores and other uses, often residential. This sector includes regeneration and waterside schemes. Central London focuses on projects from Canary Wharf to Hammersmith and Camden down to Wandsworth, Southwark and Lambeth. When he isn’t working, Nick can be found playing golf (increasingly badly) and spending time re-stocking and emptying his wine cellar to indulge his passion for wine.
