National property consultancy Carter Jonas has secured planning consent for the redevelopment of an existing commercial site on Oxford Road in Kidlington town centre. Consent was awarded by Cherwell District Council on 2nd September.

The building currently on site is a two-storey former commercial premises last in use as a chemist’s store. Its replacement will be three storeys high, just slightly less high than the neighbouring property.  It will provide a purpose-built retail unit on the part ground floor street frontage, and nine one-bedroom and two bed-bedroom apartments above and to the rear. The design is contemporary, comprising a flat roof and a palette of modern materials.  Carter Jonas, acting on behalf a private family client, dealt with the project through from its pre-application stage and to this recent planning consent.

Huw Mellor, Partner at Carter Jonas in Oxford commented, ‘We were very pleased that this planning permission will make full use of this centrally located site, with a design which is refreshing but also in keeping with neighbouring properties. The new retail unit will undoubtedly be a substantial improvement on the original, while the apartments, with their generous balconies and floor to ceiling windows, will no doubt be popular.
