Hay & Straw Auction Results
The 37th March Newbury Hay and Straw sale was held on 2nd March to conclude the 2016-17 season. The trade continued to be much the same as the January sale with straw selling very well, but with very limited demand for hay.
The average price for wheat straw was equivalent to £65 per tonne with the top price of £30 per bale for BB1290 bales from Mark Noble of Puckshipton Farms, Marden, Devizes. For Barley straw the average price equated to £70 per tonne with the top price achieved by Rob Snook of Urchfont, Devizes in New Holland BB9060 bales at £23 per bale. The average price for barley would have been higher but for an outside stack sold at a lower price.
We will continue to offer a trading service throughout the year to assist vendors and buyers with sales planned for the 2017-18 season.
