Hay & Straw Auction Results
The 66th January Newbury Hay and Straw sale saw a strong trade for straw but less demand for hay. Both wheat and barley straw sold very well to a large crowd of buyers from around the country.
With over 650 tonnes of wheat straw offered for sale the average price was equivalent to £64 per tonne with the top price of £36 per bale for New Holland BB1290 bales from regular vendor F J Snook of Urchfont, Devizes.
On barley straw the average price equated to £67 per tonne with the top price of £23 per bale going to the same vendor, F J Snook, in New Holland BB9060 bales.
A large entry of hay was met with muted demand reflecting the season with plentiful supplies of average product available as seen in other recent sales. Meadow hay from local vendor John Liddiard sold to the equivalent of £70 per tonne.
The next sale is Thursday 2nd March at Newbury Rugby Club.
