Training and Development

As an employer, Carter Jonas encourages everyone to continue their learning and development, to optimize their performance and fulfil their potential, and we are proud to have achieved the Investors in People Gold Standard.

We provide all staff with relevant training and development opportunities through the course of their career with us. Much of this training is provided in-house and we cover a wide variety of topics, including management development, sales and lettings negotiation, customer care, presentation skills, time management and financial management. While they all count towards Continuous Professional Development (CPD) hours, we organise regular CPD seminars too.

As part of our commitment to the ongoing learning and development of all staff, we support our employees with any further education they choose to take up – whether that’s NVQs or MBAs.

To encourage our people to reach their full potential and to ensure their continuous improvement on performance, everyone has an annual Personal Performance Appraisal (PPA) with their line manager, with mid-year reviews and regular 1:1 meetings. The PPA includes a personal development plan to support both the firm's business objectives and the individual's career aspirations.

Carter Jonas is committed to offering employment opportunities to individuals through alternative career paths.

If you are interested in developing a career in Property and keen to get started in employment, then our apprenticeship schemes might be for you. We currently offer opportunities within our commercial surveying practice (5 year programme) as well as in business administration (programme length varies depending on area of interest and experience).

Equality, Diversity & Inclusion

Our aim and why it matters

Carter Jonas recognise that diversity is important to any organisation’s culture. Our commitment to being an open and inclusive organisation is at the heart of our People Strategy 2025.

Diversity and inclusion is a key focus to remain competitive and we are committed to improving cultural balance within our firm. This is underpinned by our Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) strategy along with our core values, chosen by our employees: Approachable, Effective and Ambitious.

We recognise that in this competitive employment market, a workplace culture that is inclusive fosters an environment that increases productivity, performance, employee satisfaction and wellbeing. In order to drive true change at Carter Jonas, our business leaders will build upon our EDI policies, sharing and evolving best practice across recruitment, training and development, reward and recognition of all staff. We aim to attract, engage and retain the best partners and employees to achieve our business objectives, and the ambitions of our people.

EDI & what we do

Our EDI strategy is further  supported by our very own EDI Network which is open to all members of the firm. The Network meets regularly to raise awareness of inclusivity and diversity, to represent minority groups, to provide a safe space for Employees to discuss and express their views, experiences and concerns, and to identify channels of support. Every year we aim to invite guest speakers or run activities internally to help with promoting awareness across the business.

We actively engage with Changing the Face of Property which draws together industry partners to drive forward diversity initiatives and change from the top.  To encourage diversity at entry level, we support apprenticeships and appreciate the benefit in ensuring people from all backgrounds can find a route into our industry.  We have a strong Carter Jonas School Ambassador network to raise the profile of a career in surveying to those with less advantageous socio / economic backgrounds, compared to the more traditional talent pipelines into property.

Finally we are proud to have been certified as a Disability Committed Confident Employer which provides our employees and future hires the reassurance that we are not only inclusive but also provide accessibility for all within our processes. In 2021 we also achieved endorsement by Clear Assured, a national external EDI accreditation.
