Listed building design and project management
The Building Consultancy team was able to obtained permission to demolish a 20th century addition to a fine Grade II listed house and create, in its place, a larger wing constructed in the style of a Georgian orangery.
Headington House is a fine Grade II listed Georgian house dating from 1783. Carter Jonas provided the new owners with pre-purchase listed building and planning advice. We then undertook a building survey.
Following negotiations with the City Conservation Officer we obtained permission to demolish a 20th century addition and replace it with a larger wing constructed in the style of a Georgian orangery. The new wing provides a large family kitchen, laundry and boot room.
After negotiations with Building Control we were also able to remove an external fire escape and a back staircase. The latter allowed us to insert additional accommodation within the former stairwell. We designed and specified extensive conservation works, including re-roofing in Westmorland slate, stone repairs and upgrading sash windows. Complete new mechanical and electrical services were installed and the interiors were fully refurbished to a high standard of workmanship.
Carter Jonas provided a full design and contract administration service and the project was handed over within budget and ahead of programme. We have also worked on the lodge, garage apartment and cottage within the grounds and obtained permission for a swimming pool within the walled garden.
