London 25 March 2014, The generous sponsors behind a Yorkshire Post-backed charity networking event have been revealed.
Yorkshire-based Berwins Solicitors, chartered building surveyors Crowther Turnbull Booth and wind turbine specialists Earthmill are supporting national property consultancy Carter Jonas’ version of the Grand Départ – the Yorkshire Pedalthon.
More than 200 cycling enthusiasts have already signed up to the event that will take in parts of the official Grand Départ route in North Yorkshire on Thursday 22 May.
Paul Berwin, a senior partner at Berwins Solicitors and cycling enthusiast, said: “At Berwins, we’ve developed our own community of cyclists – with several members of the team cycling to work and benefiting from the Cycle to Work scheme.
“Our latest recruit, James Martin, is the founder of the Bikes in Business group and we also advise a number of bike retailers who sense the firm’s affinity with their businesses.
“Our support for the Carter Jonas Pedalthon – through sponsorship and team participation - is the culmination of Berwins’ devotion to the cult of ‘les velos’.”
The Yorkshire Pedalthon has been organised by Carter Jonas together with sporting event organisers Breathingspace Live, and will raise funds for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and public transport charity Sustrans.
David Aspland, Carter Jonas’ head of commercial in Yorkshire, said: “The Yorkshire Pedalthon will promote the region as a place to do business, helping to get the participants fitter, as well as raising the profile of local produce at dedicated food stations.
“We’re delighted to have the support of such well respected local companies as Berwins Solicitors, Crowther Turnbull Booth and Earthmill for this high profile event.”
Riders will complete either the 80 mile Yorkshire Challenge or the 40 mile Yorkshire Scenic route.
Both circular routes will start and finish at Ripley Castle in North Yorkshire, and pass through the market town of Masham – the main refreshment stop.
The Yorkshire Challenge route will involve 6,000ft of climbing, including the thigh-burning Kidstones Pass and several other blistering climbs.
The Carter Jonas Pedalthon is open to both individuals and corporate teams, with individual entry costing £150 and teams of four costing £500 each. Participants are encouraged to sign up sooner rather than later to ensure availability of branded kit.
Supporters of the event are the Yorkshire Post, Welcome to Yorkshire, Ripley Castle, Black Sheep Brewery, Heck Food, Yorkshire Provender, Brymor Ice Cream and Exquisite Handmade Cakes, English Heritage, Cycle Sense, CoStar Group and Ripon Land Rover.
