Carter Jonas' Commercial Team in Oxford has helped premier auctioneers Bonhams to relocate its regional auction centre to larger premises at Banbury Road, Shipton-on-Cherwell.  The new site is a former premier car dealership and will accommodate four main auction galleries including space for Bonhams to hold world-renowned classic car auctions on its own premises for the first time.

Michael Wynell-Mayow Director of Bonhams Oxford explains the move:  “We can now offer our clients an auction experience that is far more streamlined and efficient.  We have excellent parking for over 100 cars and proper loading facilities with space to handle the logistics of major sales.  Being on a busy A road makes us visible, easy to reach from all directions and removes the need to struggle into the city centre.  People will find it far easier to drop in for a viewing or a sale, especially families with children.”

Oxfordshire is one of Bonham’s largest regional auction centres in the UK and the new premises, at over 20,000 sq ft, are fifty percent larger than the firm’s previous site in Oxford city centre.  The site is undergoing a £500,000 refurbishment programme to provide a flexible layout for up to four different sale rooms and allowing far more sales to be held.  The firm expects to hold around 45 sales next year and, as well as its core Fine Art, Antiques and Jewellery sales, it is creating a regional home for the expansion of the Books division and Arms & Militaria.  The premises will also house the firm’s regional expert team offering valuation services and advice on insurance, probate, heritage and tax matters.

Andrew Harper of Carter Jonas' Commercial Team in Oxford, which arranged the lease, comments:  “This is a fantastic way to breathe new life into these premises and Bonhams is keeping the site’s long association with motor cars.  It’s also good news for the locality as the firm’s business will attract people from a wide area.  We’re very pleased to have helped them make their move.”
