16 October 2015, As part of Carter Jonas’ merger in 2009 with Dreweatt Neate, Carter Jonas acquired a Newbury based architectural practice, Sutton Griffin Architects. At that time, Carter Jonas’ planning team was based in Newbury and was part of the Dreweatt Neate business, and worked very closely with the team at Sutton Griffin on a number of projects, both in Newbury and across Southern England.

We are keen to strengthen this partnership to make more of Sutton Griffin’s design skills with all of our offices, and we have been examining ways to achieve this. As part of this exercise, the complementary services offered by Carter Jonas’ dedicated masterplanning team were obvious, which currently operates in the London planning and development team, led by Rebecca Sanders. The Carter Jonas masterplanning team has been established for three years and works on a national basis.

Given the clear connections between the two design teams, and linking with our other teams offering GIS and mapping, we have decided to bring masterplanning into Sutton Griffin Architects; through this we will be able to offer a more integrated design capability and both teams will trade under the Sutton Griffin banner. This combined offering brings together a team of over 20 people, greatly increasing our capability in the market place and our ability to pursue larger projects with shared resource.

As part of the restructuring, we have taken the opportunity to refresh the Sutton Griffin identity and to reinforce the link with Carter Jonas. Sutton Griffin’s website has also been completely refreshed with new material and case studies, and the Carter Jonas website has been updated to explain the relationship between the two companies.
