We have launched a new office in Birmingham, the first time we have had a presence in the city. Specialising in the commercial, residential, rural, planning and development sectors, we have seen our infrastructure business grow dramatically over the last five years. Our investment in Birmingham is a result of the city’s role as the UK’s key Infrastructure hub.

The Birmingham team will be based at 2 Snowhill in the centre of the city’s business district. The office opening follows the advancement of a number of flagship infrastructure projects in the city including HS2, New Street Station and the development of Birmingham Airport.

The office is led by Mark Hall-Digweed, Head of Infrastructure at Carter Jonas. Mark has over twenty years’ experience in the sector and has been instrumental in progressing Carter Jonas’s expansion into the Midlands. Mark will be based in Birmingham with a twelve strong team, six of whom are new appointments. The team will form part of a national network of 50 consultants at Carter Jonas, delivering professional project management services for large-scale developments to clients such as Network Rail, HS2 and Severn Trent Water.

The office opening comes at a time when infrastructure is taking centre stage on the national agenda. The UK has a significant infrastructure pipeline and the government, under the National Infrastructure Delivery Plan, has pledged funding of £100bn for projects. However, in recent months there has been some delay in decisions concerning infrastructure projects. Furthermore the Neighbourhood Planning and Infrastructure Bill, announced in the Queen’s Speech in May, was recently published as the Neighbourhood Planning Bill with a new industrial strategy expected to be announced in the Autumn Statement.

Mark Granger, Chief Executive of Carter Jonas, said:
“Our move into the Birmingham market is as a direct response to the requirements of our Infrastructure clients and our commitment to providing the highest level of strategic, integrated advice from across the different specialisms in our business. Many of our clients are already based in the city, and as a result there were compelling reasons to establish a Carter Jonas office here.

“The most successful infrastructure projects are a launch-pad for further regeneration and greater investment into a region. It is this approach that we hope to mirror when developing our presence in the Midlands. The team is well placed to draw on the expertise from across our business, including that of the CPO, energy and marine, planning and development and commercial teams to expand our offering across the UK and play an active role in confirming Birmingham’s position as a national powerhouse.”
