The appointment covers the marketing of office, research and warehouse accommodation, strategic development advice and the provision of asset valuations under the Government Financial Reporting Manual (FReM). The brief covers property interests at UKAEA’s sites in Oxfordshire located in Culham and nearby Harwell, which are located close to the A34 major trunk road and within the identified Science Vale strategic planning area, one of the most successful science clusters in the UK.

The UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) is an executive non-departmental public body sponsored by the Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy.

Carter Jonas is retained as strategic property and estates advisor with this role covering the marketing of surplus leasehold accommodation at Culham Science Centre as well as the provision of asset valuations via a three year valuation cycle and covering Operational, Investment and Land interests at Culham and Harwell in Oxfordshire.

The Culham site contains a mixture of owner-occupied research facilities as well as a number of buildings let for income generation purposes. Significantly, the site contains redevelopment opportunities to complement the existing science-based nature of the campus. Significant occupiers include Reaction Engines Limited, Oxford Innovation Limited, Civil Nuclear Constabulary, and the Joint European Torus (JET) fusion project.

Harwell is a world-leading destination for many large organisations who visit the campus to collaborate and innovate and is a joint venture between Harwell Campus Developments Ltd, the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC) and the UK Atomic Energy Authority.
Harwell Campus is home to around 200 science/research organisations and private companies in five core sectors:
• Space and Satellite Applications
• Life Sciences and Healthcare
• Big Data and Supercomputing
• Energy and Environment
• Advanced Engineering and Materials
