Waterbeach New Town is a proposal for an exemplar new settlement located north of Cambridge on land owned by both the private and public sectors.

Robert Smith, who heads up the Carter Jonas National Strategic Land Team, is a key member of the team promoting Waterbeach New Town.

South Cambridgeshire District Council has proposed a new town at Waterbeach, as part of its Local Plan for the area. This site forms a key part of the Council’s proposals to meet the housing needs in support of the growth of Cambridge.

The scheme encompasses land extending to circa 1200 acres and will provide over 10,000 new homes and associated commercial space in addition to community/leisure facilities, new schools, and open space. Key to the scheme is the provision of high quality public transport links to Cambridge, including a relocated railway station, pedestrian, and cycle links.
