Farm in South Yorkshire enters market for first time in 300 years

A part of South Yorkshire’s farming heritage is available to buy for the first time in over 300 years.
Eastfield Farm, near Thurgoland, Sheffield, has been under the ownership of the Wentworth Family since the late 1700’s.
Extending to over 200 acres, the farm will be auctioned through the York office on Thursday 23 September at 6.30pm. Andrew Fallows, head of auctioneering for Carter Jonas in the north, will conduct the event at The Bluebell Inn in Dodworth, Barnsley.
The farm, which has been worked on by three generations of the same family since 1939, is available in 11 separate lots, including the farmhouse, multi purpose farm buildings and parcels of land of varying size and use. Lot 1 includes a traditional three bed farmhouse, traditional buildings with potential, range of modern farm buildings and grassland and could appeal to a variety of purchasers.
Dan Taylor, an associate in Yorkshire, who is handling the sale said: “This is an extremely rare chance to own a slice of prime agricultural land in the local area. With such a range of lots of all sizes available, we’re expecting a large amount of interest in the farm from amenity buyers, equestrian buyers, investors, developers and commercial farmers.
“Recently we’ve seen parcels of land receive increased attention as land prices have remained buoyant, despite the economic downturn. Auctions in particular have been popular and introduced new buyers to the area.”
