There’s a healthy appetite among buyers for extra special building plots around Winchester at the moment, with Matthew Hallett in Carter Jonas' Winchester office reporting three sales in the last two weeks.

Building plot

“We have just sold two plots in open country plus another in Compton and are now offering a plot at Saxon Hill in Dean Lane, Winchester,” reports Matthew.

“Many people had predicted that the dip in the property market would suppress demand for building plots but I have found the exact opposite is true among buyers who want something extra special about the location of their next home.

“Buyers are realising that spare capital is better tied up in land than left languishing in the bank earning poor interest rates. Those who have grand designs on their next home also appreciate that quality builders and other top tradesman are keen to work and put their skills to good use at very competitive rates.

“Equally, building materials manufacturers and suppliers also need to keep stock turning over so there are plenty of opportunities at the moment to economically create a dream home.

“The plot adjacent to Saxon Hill already has planning permission for a very attractive three bedroom home so the initial hard work has been done. The site is along a leafy lane little more than a mile from the railway station and city centre and when completed the new house, to a very modern design, will stand in a mature garden.

“Among its many appealing features is a garden room with sliding doors meeting at one corner, effectively allowing opening the house into the sloping garden on summer days. The dining room will open onto the decked terrace. The galleried first floor looks down into the garden room and adjoining snug, giving the whole house a very airy feel.

“We have other exciting opportunities coming to the market very soon in Itchen Abbas and Easton for those who want to build country houses and I’m certain that they will draw a great deal of interest.”
