23 May, 2012, The boss of a former office supplies company in Trowbridge admits that taking a gap year at 50 was a little late in life but it has paid dividends.

Mark Davies, who ran File It on the White Horse Business Park from 1988 until he sold the business in 2008, decided to travel the world but he is now back in the office supplies business again.

He has set up Office Right at the Doric Business Centre on Canal Road and has renewed ties with former colleagues Jane Crawford and Anita Durnford who have joined him in his new venture.

Mr Davies, who lives in Hilperton, said: “While I was away from work I really missed the buzz, it felt like I’d lost a limb but now I’m working again with companies and contractors I used to work with. It’s like renewing old friendships.”

Office Right sells a full range of office products including printer cartridges and paper and office furniture with an interior design service. Its range also includes catering supplies, cleaning products, print management, recycling and  a large volume shredding service.

The firm currently covers Wiltshire and Somerset but plans to expand into Gloucestershire next month with the appointment of a furniture specialist/account manager.

The right location was key for Mr Davies and he puts the success of finding exactly the right place down to property consultants Carter Jonas and especially Colin Scragg, the firm’s commercial partner.

“We knew exactly what Mark was looking for and either of the two remaining units available at Doric fitted the bill,” said Mr Scragg.

Carter Jonas has unit 4 to let on Doric Business Centre and is also marketing offices at Blue Max House and Willowside Park, both on Canal Road.

Office Right is in partnership with Banner Business Services, one of the country’s leading suppliers of office products and services, and Truline which provides a nationwide warehouse and distribution service.

“Having the support of such large respected organisations means I don’t have to worry about warehousing and storage or have to invest in a fleet of delivery vehicles, it’s all done on our behalf. All I have to do is concentrate on our customers’ needs and ensure they get what they want when they want it and that means I can provide a truly personal service.”

A former Bath University graduate, Mr Davies originally worked with his father and brother in the family firm, Daviston Merlin Stationery on Bowerhill, Melksham.
