13 September 2012, The recent filming in Cambridge of a television drama for BBC television should see one of Carter Jonas’s recent ‘star’ lettings feature as a backdrop but, says the agent, there are other lettings locations in and around the city which continue to turn in quality performances for landlords year after year.
The filming was for a two-part BBC drama which is an adaptation of William Boyd’s novel “Restless”, which will be screened this autumn. The tale of espionage from the second world war through to the 1970s saw filming on Cambridge’s Park Parade for a scene set in 1939.
The Park Parade property which turned in its own star performance for Carter Jonas was a refurbished four bedroom townhouse with roof terrace and garage which was offered to rent for £3,500 per calendar month and it was snapped up soon after launch.
While Park Parade is a very picturesque part of the city and is considered as one of the finest rows of house in central Cambridge, it is not the only property with star quality when it comes to enduring lettings appeal, according to Bridgit Knowles who leads Carter Jonas’s lettings team at its Cambridge office.
“In Cambridge, ‘on-location’ means different things to different tenants,” explains Bridgit.
“For those for whom railway access is key, sometimes the most prosaic of new-build properties are the star attraction as long as they are within walking distance of the station."
“Those looking for ease of railway access combined with a degree of aesthetic appeal and larger family-sized of property might look to Great Shelford."
"Properties on and around Milton Road tend to attract those who see the Science Park and the associated research and business parks around there as the main draw of the city."
"The river is also one of our star performers with the Eights Marina ever popular. The Queen Edith area of Hills Road provides the supporting cast for tenants who are firmly focused on Addenbrooke’s Hospital."
"Not forgetting, the city’s oldest star attraction for the past 800 plus years– the university. For the colleges and historic city centre, the blockbusters are properties in the vicinity of Grange Road, Barton Road and Huntingdon Road."
