LandAid, the property industry charity working to end youth homelessness in the UK, is set to receive a further boost courtesy of the pedal power of Carter Jonas, the national property consultancy.

The annual Carter Jonas LandAid Pedalthon, celebrating its fifth year, takes place on 11 May 2018.  Last year’s ride surpassed all fundraising targets and raised over than £15,000 for LandAid. In 2016/17 LandAid grant funded 17 projects in the UK, including four in Yorkshire and Humber which are bringing empty properties back into use for young people in extreme housing need/who are homeless in Leeds, Hull, Grimsby and Cleethorpes.

Teams from Carter Jonas’ 37 offices, including four in Yorkshire, will join more than 350 cyclists taking part from across the UK’s property and business community. To date the event has raised more than £40,000 for charity. The money used goes towards the renovation of empty and derelict properties, bringing them back into use as affordable and safe homes.

Organised by cycling experts Iconic Cycling Events, the Carter Jonas LandAid Pedalthon is supported by independent Yorkshire brewery T&R Theakston and will start and end at its brewery in Masham. Riders have the opportunity to participate in the 80-mile challenge or 40-mile social ride through the striking Yorkshire countryside. Regular food stops along the route will supply some of the best produce the region has to offer.

Simon Pallett, chairman, Carter Jonas said: “The nation’s enthusiasm for cycling remains undiminished and we are extremely excited to launch the Carter Jonas LandAid Pedalthon for the fifth year. The event’s popularity continues to grow. This is a testament to the beautiful Yorkshire countryside which provides a perfect setting, the smooth organisation as well as the array of local provisions provided en route and at the finish line by our generous supporters.

“Yorkshire remains one of Carter Jonas’ main business hubs, and it is a pleasure to welcome clients and acquaintances from across our network to the region. The ride, whilst challenging, is also a chance to take in some of the county’s most picturesque landscape and historical landmarks, whilst helping to raise money for LandAid - an extremely worthwhile cause making a vital difference in young lives.”

Paul Morrish, chief executive, LandAid, commented: “We never fail to be astounded by the property industry’s generosity and enthusiasm for a sporting challenge. We’re delighted and proud to once again be the chosen charity for the Carter Jonas LandAid Pedalthon. Having ridden myself, I know that the fifth Pedalthon will be an action-packed day, full of beautiful scenery and fantastic people. The good will of those involved helps us to achieve a positive and lasting impact on the lives of so many young people.”

Simon Theakston, executive director, T&R Theakston Limited, said: “It is always a pleasure to welcome the property and business community to our brewery, especially when it’s for such a worthwhile cause as LandAid. Each year gets bigger and better, so we have high hopes for the fifth ride. I am always pleased to support and ride the Carter Jonas LandAid Pedalthon and look forward to again providing thirsty riders with some much-needed refreshment at the end of the day.”

Entry is open to both individuals and corporate teams, and costs £90 per rider or £480 per team of 6 (all inc VAT).
