Carter Jonas received confirmation that our first application submitted under the new permitted development rights for change of use from offices to residential has been approved shortly after the introduction of the new rights.
The property, which is a four storey office building with A2 commercial on the ground floor, is located in Reading town centre. Planning permission had previously been granted for a change of use of the upper floors to residential, albeit with a requirement to make an affordable housing contribution (amongst others) totalling some £34,000. The introduction of the new permitted development rights in May 2013 created an opportunity to gain consent for the development, without the need to pay these contributions. The Oxford Planning Team has submitted a number of applications under the new permitted rights for a wide range of office buildings in both urban and rural locations.
